Well we done it again!!!

I’m always monitoring Freecycle and a few days ago a lady posted a nannie goat and a miniature horse she wanted to get rid of. Of course everything on that site is free and I jumped right on that ad. She emailed me back that someone had already spoken for them but said if I wanted her too she would keep my email address and write back if they didn’t take them.
Well today I missed a call on my cell phone and returned it to see who it was from and it was her calling to let me know the horse was still available because the people came after the goat and horse but couldn’t load the horse so they didn’t take him. Well Glenda reminded me that a friend of ours, Mary Ramey,  had a horse trailer and suggested I call her to see if she could go get him. I did and it turned out that for some reason she and her boyfriend couldn’t but Scott gave me the name of a stock hauler and said he could probably do it. It looks like the hauler is going after the little horse tomorrow after church.

The littlle guy is blind in his right eye but that doesn’t matter to us because we want hiim for a pet and that isn’t going to interfere with that. We can’t wait to see him. I don’t even know what color it is or whether it’s a gelding or a stallion. I’ll post pictures when we get him. Come to think of it , I didn’t even ask the lady his name.

I hope Ron gets the bugs out of his computer soon. He has a virus or Trojan or both in it and it’s down for the count at least for now. Good luck Ron!!!

Where has the time gone?

Well we had a great autumn and then winter hit with a vengeance. It’s also a new year and I’m not going to miss the last year at all.

Ron has sure been writing some good stuff and I read  it all.  Ron you should write a book! You are that good. Very interesting stuff and I don’t know where you come up with all the ideas. You can turn the most mundane things into something hilarious. I love to read about Rodney who is actually your alter ego from what I gather. Hmmm, then again maybe he is another personality (as in Syble).

My doctor now says I am diabetic and he has Glenda checking my blood sugar three times a week because he doesn’t believe I will. I have to go back in 4 months (April 28th). He told her to call him if it checked over 200 more than once. He asked me if I would give up sweets and I emphatically told him “NO,  and  that I couldn’t imagine going through life without sweets!” I don’t want to use insulin either so I guess after a little resistance on my part I’ll do my best to at least LIMIT my sugar somewhat.

The goats are doing fine and they are fenced in except when they figure a way to get out. LOL  The does will give birth to their kids sometime in the spring and we are looking forward to that. They are sooo cute and cuddly but the we will have to either build more fence or sell some. One of our does has been known to have 4 kids in the past so we don’t know how many to expect from all 3 of them. Time will tell.

Well I’ll cut this short because I want to watch more college basketball. The Arkansas Razorbacks beat Alabama today and Alabama was on a win streak. I’m finally getting happy with the Hawgs again. We had three of our best players suspended and others were injured so we are just now getting back to full strength.

Pray for the people of Haiti.

Doctor’s Visit

I went to my Doctor Friday and it wasn’t the best visit I ever had. He told me there was nothing more that could be done for my lungs and that they will continue to get worse.  He explained that my body fights off problems in my lungs using white corpuscles. Now we all know that is our body’s defence against all kinds of things. In my case, he said the white corpuscles got confused and are attacking the healthy tissue as well.

Apparently, there is nothing that can change that and keep it from happening.  I asked him how long I had and he sat there for a few seconds and then answered, “I don’t know”. He then added that he didn’t think I would kick off in the next year.

That’s not the best thing to hear but it tells me that I better enjoy the time I have left and do my best to keep things in order with my Heavenly Father. I guess it’s normal to have doubts at times of stress as to whether you are truly saved and I have to admit that I think about that a lot. When I do, I pray for forgiveness all over again and I ask Jesus to save me again. I know this makes me feel guilty all over again but I don’t know any way to avoid that. I sure don’t want to be found lacking on judgement day.

The bible tells us to pray without ceasing. I can’t remember to do that all day long but I pray every time I think about it which is often.

The doctor told me that the reason the cardiologist won’t repair the leaky stent in my aortic aneurysm is that they are afraid they won’t be able to wean me off the respirator after the surgery. I asked him about a lung transplant and it surprised him I think. He asked me how old I was when all he had to do was look at the computer in front of him, but I told him 72. Then he said he didn’t think I knew all the things that involved and I said well I’ll fight to live if the surgeons will do their part!

Now I ask for prayer from anyone reading this and I really believe prayer works.

Fencing. No not that kind. GOAT fencing.

We got some serious progress made yesterday. David Sacco came down and helped and man it went up fast. We got probably a third of the Does pasture built. He is a friend of mine and Glenda’s that works at her store. He hunts here every deer season and even killed a Bear on our place. He’s killed Deer too and seen and taken pictures of  more. He’s seen Bobcats and a white Fox and is amazed by the variety of wildlife on this nearly 41 acres.

This old body of mine is just about past going any more and he was sure a big help, or should I say I tried to stay out of David’s and Glenda’s way. They did most of the work and I helped when I could and answered their questions when they had one. Fortunately, I do know how to build fence and neither of them had ever built fence before so when they needed me I was available.  Knowing how and being able to build fence is two different things.

Well, tomorrow I have to call my doctor and make an appointment for sometime before Thursday. I have to ask what kind of test they want me to have at the hospital too. They sent the paperwork to the hospital already to have  them do an AVG procedure on me and I’m in the dark about why or what it’s for. Glenda has to go to her clinic tomorrow afternoon to get instructions to follow in getting a colonoscopy so the whole day will be taken up by medical stuff. Then on Thursday I think I’ll have to see my doctor about the results of the AVG procedure. That’s why he wanted me to have it done before Thursday I guess. I’ll know more in the morning when I call the doctor.

It’s Hot!!!!

  • Well, I know one thing. Summer is here regardless what the calendar says!! It’s hot!! Too dang hot!!! We had a wonderful spring until now. Lot’s of rain and cool temps. Ahhh — that was nice but now, — it’s too dang hot!! We still don’t have the fence built. Either it’s rained or it’s too hot. Now it looks like it may be hot from here on out. Oh well, I guess we’ll have to get out real early and work on the fence before it gets so hot.The weatherman says it will rain Friday and be hot and dry all weekend so I guess we will just take it as long as possible and then come into the house and cool off.
  • We got three new goats!

I forgot to mention that we got three new goats last  Tuesday. It was hard getting the fence built on this rough ground and first it was the rain and then the heat. Now we finally have them here and they are settling right in. I wormed them today and will again tomorrow and maybe Saturday too.  Their coats look really rough and dry. Compared to the ones we already have they look pretty bad but I’ll get them slicked off and fattened up pretty quick. I’ve been pouring the medicated feed to them and they act like they never had any in their lives. They have plenty of  browse to munch on too. They love leaves and weeds and briars that nothing else will eat.

The count now stands at 2 adult bucks, 1 one week old buckling, 2 wethers, and 3 does.

The new ones are pretty old and nobody knows for sure just how old they are. I’ll sure do my best to get them looking good and healthy as soon as possible.

I mentioned the heat, well it’s hit us big time now and for the next week it’s going to be in the 90s and 100s. Seems too early in the year for this heat. I just hope we can pay our electric bill. Whew! It will be a big one I’m sure.

Entry for May 08, 2009 Waaay Behind!!

I guess it’s time to post an update.

Glenda’s vacation was this past week and we had big plans to build some bigger goat pens. We bought goat wire and some posts and even got our neighbor to use his dozer to clean an area . We were ready right?? Mother nature didn’t cooperate at all! It rained every single day all week and we didn’t build any fence at all.

We had the trash company bring us a 16 foot trailer with 4 foot sides and we did get it pretty well loaded with trash and that will help the looks of the place at least.

I’ve been battling emphysema for years and finally my doctor got me to let Lincare bring me a monitor to wear overnight to measure my blood oxygen level and it showed that I needed to be on oxygen at night. My doctor hopes that’s all I’ll have to use it and I sure hope so too..

Last night was my first night and I did pretty well. I was able to sleep and even when I went to the bathroom I was able to go right back to sleep.

The lady we got our goats from is giving us the rest of hers because her dogs attacked hers yesterday and tore one up to the point that she had to shoot it to put it out of his misery. Now we just have to build fence somehow rain or shine I guess.
